my 9 week old son has white patches on his tongue, but not thrush?? i have a 9 week old son who was born with a little white patch on the tip of his tongue. i was told by the midwife that this will go away, probably just residue, but last week i noticed a much bigger one in the middle of his tongue. they are not furry, can not be scrapped away and do not change shape - they are just a white patch??? i had the health nurse check it yesterday and she didnt know what it could be, but assured me it wasnt thursh or any fungal infection, and to check it out with my gp, who will do some further tests. i couldnt get to the doctors today, but i will tomorrow, though im anxious to know if anyone has an idea of what they could be?
I am breast feeding and I think my baby has thrush on tongue!? I am breastfeeding my 6 week old and I noticed a white patch with some rounds bumps on her tongue. Is this thrush and if so how is it treated?

Is this white patch on my babies tongue thrush or formula...? I am a new mom and nobody told me to clean my babies tongue everyday...I breastfeed but sometimes my childs father would give him formula...he has a white patch towards the back of his tongue.....i tried a cloth to wipe it out but it is still there.....he feeds fine no problem i see as of yet....my nipples look normal.....i do feel a wierd sensation though but i think its because he only sucks my nipple and does not take in more of the breast....but no pain while feeding him....I dont know if I should be concerned , advice from anyone would be wonderful....
Burnt tongue or thrush? I've had thrush before, but this really isnt like that last time. It feels like I burned my tongue, but don't remember doing so. I have some white patches on the sides of my tongue, but unlike what people have said (or like last time), there is no redness or bleeding at all when I brush my teeth or anything. It actually feels better after I brush. It seems to be getting a little better, but its been going on for almost 3 days now. However, its still uncomfortable and I can feel my tongue being swollen. Should I wait it out and then go to the doctor for diflucan? Any thoughts on what it is?
Can thrush only be on the tongue? I was looking at my daughters tongue and she has a lot of white patches on it. There aren't any more anywhere else in her mouth, just her tongue. I was reading online that its normally not just on the tongue, but when I wipe hers, it doesn't wipe off. She eats well still, but I am wondering if any of your babies have had it and it was just on the tongue?

I keep waking up with a thick white layer on my tongue.I was told it was not thrush by my dentist. What is it? Recently, I've been waking up with a thick layer of white gunk on my tongue. I have not changed any of my oral hygiene. I stick to it faithfully. My dentist says it is not oral thrust because it is not in patches and doesn't bleed when scraped off. I've been using a tongue scraper, but it continues every morning. It seems to get better after I eat or drink. I've tried mouth washes, peroxide, etc. and can't get it to stop forming. The part that puzzles me is that it just recently started. Any answers will be greatly appreciated.
Could I have Thrush after performing oral sex? My girlfriend had a yeast infection. She used some cream to clear it up. A few days later I ate her out. Nothing seemed different than the times before. Now I have pimple like bumps in my throat and on the back of my tongue. Everything I found points to thrush more or less. I don't really have any white patches that bleed though. Is it thrush or something else?
Why does my baby has a yellow tongue? Just noticed that my (happy, giggly) baby has a yellow patch I can't rub off on his tongue. Is it thrush or something else?
How long does Nystatin take to cure thrush? My 7 week old daughter has a mild case of thrush, it doesn't bother her at all but she has white patches on lower/upper inner lips, inner cheeks, and back of the tongue. Today she has been prescribed Nystatin by her pediatrician. I am bottle feeding and have been steam sterilizing everything after each use. How long does it normally take for Nystatin to clear up thrush? We are supposed to finish the entire bottle of medication even if it goes away just to make sure it does not return.
Can thrush be painful for baby? Last night my daughter started this weird thing of not really eating in the early evening. This continued all the way until bedtime where I think she began to become increasingly hungry but still wouldn't eat. Every time I would go to feed her she would gag and choke a little (shes breastfed) and it looked to me as if she was in pain. She does have a thick white patch on her tongue, could this be thrush and is thrush painful? It's her mouth that seems to hurt Either way shes seeing the doctor today. I almost brought her to the er last night but I finally got her to sleep so I figured I'd wait and let her doc see her this morning. And I read online that mom or baby recently being on antibiotics can cause thrush, I just ended antibiotic treatment for an infection in my uterus.
i have these strange white patches on the sides of my tongue....? i have these wife patches on teh sides of my tongue, i have tried looking for something on web MD, and i came up with Thrush...i looked up what thrush looks like and the pictures are definitely not what i have, i have small patches on the sides, they dont affect me in anyway, i dont have any bad eating habits, i dont drink or smoke they come off with a little force from my toothbrush but its annoying because ive never had it before, my breath doesnt stink either, and i dont have any weird habits like grinding my teeth at night, or chewing my tongue... WHAT COULD THIS BE??!?! oh and it doesnt hurt..
White patches on roof of Baby's mouth...Thrush? My 2 week old daughter has small white patches on the roof of her mouth. I don't know if it is thrush or just a result of nursing, like blistering. She does not have any white on her gums or tongue. She doesn't seem uncomfortable. I am familiar with thrush, I had it a lot with my older daughter and I know how painful it gets to nurse through it! Especially since I am alredy all tore up from a bad latch! Anyways, can thrush apear on the roof of the mouth? You don't need a doctor for thrush Mike.
Questions on checking for thrush? I think my 2.5 month old has thrush. I know I have to check his tongue for white patches but how do I get him to open his mouth for long enough to see?
What are these white patches on my sons tongue?!?!?!? I noticed that my son (13 months) might have thrush so I did a litte research on the net. I read that only new borns get it and when they are older they can't get it. I'm pretty worried and I made a docs appointment today but I was just wondering it anyone had anything to add on what might be going on. He acts like he's fine but I've noticed he doesn't want to really chew (he has 8 teeth) like he usually can. Meal times he's a little fussy but for the most part he's acting normal. I brush his teeth everyday. He also drinks soy milk instead of whole milk so could that have something to do with it?????? Please Help!
oral thrush during pregnancy? im 21 weeks pregnant and ive noticed a white patch way behind my tongue. i think its oral thrush...i have pain when swallowing and my tongue stings when i eat. im so worried that i have an underlying disease or something...but its most likely its due to being pregnant right? is oral thrush common during pregnancy? does anyone know any at home remedies? ive just been gargling warm salt water.
Oral Thrush, help!? I have had what I think is oral thrush for the past two days. I believe it is thrush because I have white patches on my tongue, my cheeks, and the back of my throat. I also have raised bumps. My roommate has had thrush in the past and is pretty sure that this is what I have. I do not want to go to the doctor as I don't have insurance and usually use home remedies anyway. If anyone has had thrush before and has used home remedies please let me know what you used. I'm looking for ones that actually work! PLEASE do not tell me to just go to the doctor, at this point that really isn't an option. Thanks! I should add I am NOT sexual active (have not been for some time) and I do not smoke. Throat does not hurt at all. Nothing hurts. Posey P: Just because I am looking for home remedies doesn't mean I don't care about my health. I am looking for OTHER people's opinions on home remedies. I already said I don't want to hear about going to the doctor. I am a student who can NOT afford to go at the moment.
Do I have tongue cancer? I have discomfort in the back of my tongue, I have a white tongue(thrush) oohh I know, but there is a yellow patch that is discomfortable. I am a heavy smoker and drinker, what chance do I have?
White tongue, raised white patch on left side!? I was recently treated with Levaquin for a sinus infection. Prior to the treatment, I noticed that my tongue is almost always white now. I also noticed that there is a raised white patch on the top left side of my tongue. When I use the tongue scraper my tongue just starts to have this "hairy" look, but the white remains. The raised patch is not bleeding, and does not look like an ulcer, just a raised lump. I know the white tongue is most likely Thrush, but would the raised white patch be part of the thrush? I also have a lot of soreness in my throat, but not when I swallow. It's just a soreness feeling down the throat. I am just looking for some knowledge here, as everything I read about this states tongue CANCER. Is this accurate?
Do I have thrush? I seem to have thrush on my tongue but I can't quite tell. Near the back of my tongue I see a few blisters and there is a white coating over my taste buds. There are also small white specs on my tongue. When I looked at pictures of thrush I noticed the patches were a lot thicker. It doesn't hurt but I really want to get rid of it becuase its making me uncomfortable to know theres fungus growing on my tongue. It is about 2:30 in the morning right now and I can't sleep because of this. Does anyone know what my conditions are based on my simptoms? There is also a small red dot in the center of my tongue. Also, what should I do about this?
newborn oral thrush??? my little boy is 2 weeks old, we think he has oral thrush, his tongue is covered white and he has white patches on his gums, he is crying continuesly. are there any home remedies 4 this, does any1 know, because he seems very distressed?????
Milky taste in mouth = oral thrush? For the past 2 weeks I've noticed a milky taste in my mouth, and it reoccurs about 5-10 mins after eating food with a distinct taste! I've been reading up on this and I've noticed that this seems to be one of the symptoms of oral thrush - I also have white/milky patches on my tongue which are a symptom of oral thrush (and look reaaaally disgusting), and I've had this symptom for at least 3 years. Do you think I could have oral thrush? I'm not sexually active and have never had thrush before. I have a healthy diet and drink lots of water. However, I do stress alot, so maybe this could be a contributor? Any opinions?
Yeast infection on tongue? For those who have answers and not guessers. I not sure if I have thrush. My tongue gets a white coating on it,( but no sores, soreness or bleeding, patches as listed as symptoms). As soon as I brush and scrape it, the pink color returns. The whole tongue turns white, not in spots. I am hoping to find a good mouth wash to eliminate this. I know for thrush a prescription mouthwash of Nystatin is available. Yet, there are no yeast symptoms except the color turns. And the cheeks of my mouth are nice and clear. I have no white or grey patches in my mouth (gums, roof of mouth, inside cheeks), nor any raised or hard lesions.
THRUSH during pregnancy??????? has anyone ever had thrush during their pregnancy!? i'm pretty sure that its what i have. what were your symptoms? mine are burning tingling sensation when i eat certain food esp citrus, white tongue, and white patches on the back of my throat, difficulty swallowing. im currently taking oral nystatin.. what did you take if you had thrush during your pregnancy? thanks for the answers its been so irritating... this wholoe thrush thing. appreciate it:):)
Is this thrush or milk build up? I asked a question a little while ago and the majority of people said it was thrush but after looking it up im not so sure. He has a white patch on his tongue and nowhere else and he is 9 weeks old. He has no problem eating and doesn't seem to be bothered by it. Regardless i will call his Dr. in the morning. Just looking for some opinions
Oral thrush, can't seem to get rid of it? I took flagyl three weeks ago, three days in my tongue got a thick coating on it that was yellow. I called the doctor and they said it would go away after I stopped the anitbiotic. It didn't. Went to clinic and they said I had thrush and gave me Nyastain 1ml twice a day for a week. Didn't get better. I then went to my PCP who said it wasn't thrush, that it was "hairy" tongue and that this was different from thrush. She said it would go away wiht time but gave me Peridex mouth wash to use. It started to get better, went from yellow to white and the "coating" seemed to lessen but I have bumps on the back of the tongue with some white patches still. It's not been almost FOUR weeks since this started and it hasn't gone away. I'm convinced it is oral thrush and that I need continued treatment for oral thrush, however; my PCP insists that it is 'hairy' tongue, though she has not cultured it. I am at a loss as to what to do. I feel disgusting with a white tongue and these bumps on the back! Not to mention, i'm not sure if this is contagious so I am hesitant to kiss my significant other at all...any suggestions? By the way my doctor did order a lot of blood work and all was fine with that.
What are these whitish creamy white layers and spots in the mouth? My mom is 46 and there has developed in her mouth white spots inside her cheeks, white creamy layers(white patches) on her tongue. There is a whitish pocket like appearance in the place where the lower cheek meets the gum near the lower jaw. A doctor diagnosed them as ulcers.and annother doctor diagnosed them as thrush.
Is oral thrush hard to treat? After having 2 courses of antibiotics, I started having this strange feeling in my tongue like it's been scalded with hot liquid or something and I have this strange bitter taste in my mouth. I went to my Oral surgeon and he told me it might be oral thrush although I don't have those white patches on my tongue but it's just a little red and slightly white on the sides. He didn't take a culture because he said OT is hard to detect but he was going to treat me as such anyway. He gave me a prescription for Mycelex Lozenges to take 5 a day for 10 days. Well at first I started to feel better, but after about 7 days of using them, I'm back to exactly where I started. I plan to go back to the Dr. in a couple of days but in the meantime can someone please tell me if they have any idea what is going on. Has anyone been through anything similar to this?? This is driving me crazy. .
Oral Thrush PLEASE Docs, Nurses, Exp... PLEASE HELP!? Ok, about a week ago I noticed my mouth was burning and aching. Went to doc who said my tongue was fine. Well, 6 mths ago I had oral thrush and that doc said if immune system down, I could get it again. So, I decided to break out the medicine she prescribed which are disolvable pills called "Clotrimazole Troche" 10 Mg. I've been on them for maybe 2 days but do not see an improvement. Now there is white patches in my throat. I am worried the medicine is not working. I am certain this is oral thrush again. Same white patches and burning. Could someone please help? Could it just be that it is worse then last time and is taking longer for the medicine to take effect? Is there something stronger maybe? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
My baby's tongue red blister sore? My 4 month old baby has got red patches on her tongue and has had them for about 3 weeks, we went to the doctor as they looked sore and the doctor said it was a non specific viral infection and would clear up in about 7 - 10 days but this has not happened, it's not thrush as she had thrush when she was a few weeks old with a white tongue and we treated it and it never came back. The sores look a bit like popped blisters, is it possible that these have developed from sucking on her toys? I would appreciate any feedback as I have tried to research this topic but am unable to find anything, thanks.
Oral thrush due to severe dry mouth. Will my Nystatin RX cure both? Please help, I've never had this before!? I very recently started taking a weight loss supplement that gave me severe dry mouth and I ended up getting oral thrush two days later because of it. I first noticed the sides of my tongue had white curd like patches but they didn't hurt or bleed. I immediately began gargling with warm salt water, brushed, flossed and scraped my tongue after and in between meals 3-5 times daily and also used Biotene dry mouth mouthwash through out the day to help retain moisture and ate plain unsweetened yogurt with active cultures whenever I snacked. Within 36 hours the white lesions were virtually gone yet I still had dry mouth even after drastically increasing my water intake. Also I have stopped taking the supplements but only as of yesterday. So I actually have a few questions that I can't find answers to. Since the lesions on my tongue are no longer visible does that mean the oral thrush is gone/cured? Are my symptoms of bad breath, sensitive teeth, gum bleeding/inflammation* and a metal like taste in my mouth (which comes back almost immediately after brushing) due to the oral thrush, dry mouth or possibly both? If both, will the medication cure these symptoms even if they are not due to the oral thrush which the medication is solely intended to cure? NOTE: These symptoms began approximately 24-36 hours after the tongue lesions dissipated. Once I finish my oral thrush prescription (that I just began taking today...Nystatin oral suspension) and assuming it treats and cures my oral thrush will it also cure the excessive dry mouth (which is what caused the oral thrush)? How will I know that the oral thrush is cured since the white lesions aren't visible (as I have never had this infection before)? What should I do/take if the medication does NOT cure the dry mouth? And IF I decide to use the supplement again (this time taking only 1 pill every other day vs. the 2 pills i was taking daily) AND do not get dry mouth again, can the oral thrush still come back? *my gums are inflamed in certain areas not everywhere. Also I use a brand new toothbrush daily disposing of the previous one just to be extra safe. They are all soft bristle. Yet every time I brush my teeth there is always a large amount of blood when I go to spit/rinse. NOTE: I already had sensitive gums before the oral thrush but have never seen this much blood drawn due to simple brushing. And last but not least in the time that I am waiting to be fully cured, is there anything I can drink/eat to provide more moisture to my mouth to help with the uncomfortable feeling of dry mouth? Aside from a lot of water?
Could this be oral thrush? Experience only please.? I had my wisdom teeth removed a week ago. Because it was surgery, the surgeon put me on steroids for 6 days to keep the swelling down, and antibiotics for 10 days to prevent infection. As of the past couple of nights, my throat has been sore. I've now noticed whiteish fuzzy patches on my tongue with raw red spots around. It bled when I brushed my teeth. Is it possible that this is thrush? Once I'm off antibiotics, should it go away, or should I go ahead and call the doc? Also, I'm not sure if this matters, but I'm also taking birth control, lortab 7.5 and mepergan fortis.
I think my 14 month old has thrush? I was giving my daughter a drink of my juice through a straw and I noticed like a white patch on her tongue. Theres like these patches its hard to explain. it looks like this. http://www.scumdoctor.com/images/disease/invasive-candidiasis-sympto.jpg Thats a good example but the hers isn't that yellow its more of a white but its like faint. Its very noticable. Has anybody elses baby had thrush I have no clue with it is or how bad it is I'm researching right now. I'm making a doc appointment tomorrow for her.
Sore Tongue? Hello... I wasn't sure exactly where to post this... I was wondering if this was a problem that should be solved by a doctor or a dentist. My tongue feels sore. I did not bite on it, I did not drink anything hot, I am not sick nor do I have a fever, it feels sensitive as if I had thrush, but no white patches are present, it is not deeply red or inflamed, there aren't any unusual spots, bumps or opened sores. I take prenatal vitamins. I eat normally. I brush twice daily and brush my tongue & palate. What could this possibly be? Is this another one of them bizarre pregnancy issues? I also drink water ^ I do wear braces... I am wondering if that is the source of the problem... because the soreness is mainly on the sides of my tongue... however I don't recall having this problem before I got pregnant.
Why is my newborn's tongue? orange? Thrush causes white patches, from what I've read, and she's only 3 and a half weeks, and breastfed... What could this be? (I'm calling her doc, tomorrow morning, but, in the meantime...)
thrush in healthy adults? can u get thrush 9 days after use of antibotics? i had it a month ago due to antibotics well last night my tongue burned alittle and there r white patches now. i had blood work done and everything was normal. if i got thrush again does this mean my immune system is bad? i am pretty healthy except for this.please help?

How to get rid of a white furred tongue? I went to see my GP about having a whitish furry substance on my tongue. I thought it may be oral thrush as someone else on here said. He looked in my mouth and said it wasn't oral thrush, that oral thrush is seen in blotches and can peel off the tongue, leaving a sore patch underneath. He said that having a furred tongue is relatively normal, and that I can help by drinking more water and maybe taking vitamin C tablets. The problem is, I've been doing both of these things for the past six months and I still have it! What are your experiences with this, and how can I get rid of it? There must be a way!
Red circle on tongue...? A few months ago, I burned on tongue on something hot. Now, I have this patch on my tongue. It has a red raised circle around a pale like area on the tip of my tongue. Sometimes it is sensitive when I brush my teeth or eat hard chips or something like that... It isn't painful unless I rub it against the roof of my mouth or my toothbrush hits it and scrapes it. It's worrying me. My mom says it might be thrush but I have never had thrush and it is not all over my tongue. It's only in that one area. What could it be??? BTW... I have not done anything sexual with anybody. I am waiting on my future husband. (Not many people do that anymore but I don't want to be ABC gum (Used). I much rather wait on my future husband to do any of that). I also am not running a fever or am I sick. I was sick with a cold about a month ago. But that cleared up a week before Easter.
Does this sound like long-term or short-term Thrush infection? Does this sound like long-term or short-term Thrush infection? Does it sound as though it has spread to my esophagus? What are the symptoms of esophageal thrush? The spots I describe on my tongue are red, with a thin white ring around the edge and the red portion is tender. I caught a flu-like cold about 3-4 months ago from my room mate. Before we go down this road. Know that I have tested HIV negative and Diabetes negative within the last 2 months. I have not had ANY SORT of exposure to HIV in several years. These tests were prompted by the spots that I'm describing. I had the sporadic small red patches with thin white rings around them on the sides of my tongue, toward the rear. Off and on for the past 3 months. These spots were present where my teeth touched my tongue and they came and went frequently, they did not stick around long or grow to be very large. When flying, these spots became more problematic and appeared on the tip of my tongue as well as the top of my tongue toward the tip - assuming that this is due to drier air on the long plane ride. These spots seemed to go away after getting off the plane. The spots on the sides of my tongue remained to demonstrate the same symptoms mentioned previously. I asked my regular doctor about them. He did not seem concerned. The spots continued off and on over the side rear of my tongue. I arrived in a new place about a month ago. This place has heavy heavy pollution. To the point that I get black stuff out of my nose every time I blow it after being outside or in my hotel room for more than a few minutes. I have to assume that the sore throat and cough that I developed were a result of allergies to this pollution. I got a sore throat at the base of my neck, at the hollow of my throat. (I was tested for thyroid issues as a result of this - i have no thyroid issues). It feels like someone has their finger on the hollow of my throat and is applying very light pressure / just enough to be annoying. I developed a cough shortly after, it became a chest cold. I went to a local pharmacy (different doctor) and he gave me some antibiotics and decongestant for 3 days. The cough wasn't gone after 3 days so I went to an actual doctor in the area (yet a different doctor), he put me on different antibiotics for 3 days. I asked him about my tongue, he seemed not to be concerned. After 3 days of antibiotics, the cough was still hanging around, so he extended the antibiotics to a total of 5 days (8 days total on antibiotics). I was good for a day or two. I had an endoscopy for an unrelated issue. I did not mention the spots to the gi doctor, but he did not mention anything about my throat or esophagus from the procedure. Shortly after the endoscopy, my cough started coming back and I was put back on antibiotics for 3 days. On the 2nd day of this course, I went back to the doctor because my tongue had severely broken out in spots. At this point, he gave me a RX for clotramizole liquid and told me to start using it after my antibiotics. I have been using clotramizole for about 3 days now. I have not had any kind of fever. Once again: Does this sound like long-term or short-term Thrush infection? Does it sound as though it has spread to my esophagus? What are the symptoms of esophageal thrush? Thanks * 6 hours ago * - 4 days left to answer. Additional Details Also, I have had drainage symptoms constantly over the last few months. ***IMPORTANT NOTE*** I started experiencing tonsil stones about 2-3 months ago. I got rid of them by squeezing them out of their crypts with q-tips and then rinsing with listerine. I started this process shortly before developing these spots. 6 hours ago Also, the disomfort in my throat is not "swallowing discomfort". It's there while at rest also. I almost think it is reflux related. For example, when I force myself to burp, it goes away briefly. The throat issue commonly bothers me later in the day, a little while AFTER eating... thus the reflux suspicion. I have reflux.
I think my toddler has thrush... sorry, this is long.? My 26-month-old was given a round of antibiotics at the end of March. I took her to an urgent care facility (it was on a Sunday... our regular pediatrician wasn't in) because of a bright red rash she had on her cheeks. She was diagnosed with Fifth Disease, and - although she had showed absolutely NO signs of being sick before or during the rash - the doctor there also said she had a double ear infection AND a sinus infection, and prescribed a 10-day course of antibiotics. Her last course of antibiotics before this was over 6 months ago. About a week and a half after she started the antibiotic, I noticed she had a pretty bad diaper rash. It was there for several days, and it wouldn't go away. It was patchy, bright red and inflamed, and I suspected it might be a yeast infection. I called the pediatrician and they prescribed an ointment and the rash finally went away. Fast forward to about two weeks ago... I noticed some white patches on the tip of her tongue. They were small at first, then they got bigger. At first I thought she'd been chewing on her tongue. The spots didn't look like canker sores, they were raised and rough to the touch. The only thing I could think of that it looked like was thrush. I kept asking her if they bothered her, and she always said no. Again I called the pediatrician to see if she should be seen... they said to mix equal parts of liquid Benadryl and Maalox together and put it on the affected area, and if that doesn't get rid of it she should come in. This was yesterday and the spots are still there, but I've only applied the mixture 2 or 3 times, so I'm not sure it's been long enough yet. So, my question is, could the yeast infection on her bum and the (probable) thrush be caused by the antibiotics she took over 6 weeks ago? Or is it just coincidence? Could she have some other type of infection that I don't know about that could be causing this stuff? I'm kind of irked because, although I don't have a medical degree, I'm pretty convinced the antibiotic I was told to give her was unnecessary. I would do anything and everything to help her get better if she was sick, but she *never* showed any signs of being unwell, aside from the rash on her face. Not one sneeze, not one day of a stuffy nose, no crying as if she were in pain from having an ear infection, she never ran a fever or even seemed tired.... I know that neither the diaper rash or the thrush is life-threatening, but I'm wary of her "good bugs" being killed off by taking unnecessary medication, and allowing these other infections to pop up. I would have sought a second opinion on her supposed ear and sinus infections, but our second baby was delivered the next day, so we were a little occupied with the new addition. Opinions?
Thrush in Baby's Mouth? My 7 and half week old son has little white patches on the inside of his lower lip and his tongue. A neighbour noticed them this evening and said its thrush and I should take him to the doctor. The problem is, our surgery won't be open now till tommorrow morning - is it urgent enough to call the emergency doctor or will he be OK till tommorrow morning? He doesn't seem to be in any pain or discomfort and he's breastfeeding ok. Also, if my baby has thrush will I have any symptoms? I'm breastfeeding and I've noticed my nipples are a bit sore and itchy - is this because of the thrush?
is it thrush or just from the formula? my 6 week old son has a thick coating on his tongue, its white of course, but he is a bottle fed baby well at least for the last 4 weeks. we have changed to soy formula about a week and a half ago because he was totally inconsolable and very moody/gassy. i seemed to wipe some of it off last night, but there seem to be tiny little patches in his mouth, like in the sorners of his lips. he doesnt seem to be in any pain when he eats. my wife is taking him to the doc today, also i have read alot especially on here that the nystatin doesnt really work, also we use bottled water, especially living here in cali i wouldnt dare use the tap water in long beach
There are three white areas on my tongue that have gotten larger over the last few weeks...? and I am getting a little nervous about them. I have an appointment in a week and a half to see my Primary Care Dr. About 4-5 weeks ago I tried using a whitening toothpaste...a day later my tongue started to hurt. There were white areas on the sides of my tongue. I realize that it could have been a bit of a burn or reaction to the whitening agent, but when it did not go away, I went to see my Dr. He gave me a liquid anti-fungal rinse, just in case it was thrush, and although the white areas on the sides are not totally gone, it has gotten better. While this was going on, 3 white patches on the top of my tongue became noticeable to me. The Dr. (at that same appointment) said that he could not see anything abnormal. These patches have grown quite a bit over the last few weeks, and are beginning to hurt a little. Any ideas of what this might be? I am generally healthy - and have never had anything like this before!!! Here is a photo: http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu123/ny1111/IMG_0591_edited.jpg Thanks!
Oral Thrush in Pregnancy? I have always had a "geographical tongue" growing up, but it would come and go. The last week or so, my tongue has become increasingly sensitive and I have white patches all over the front of it. The roof of my mouth, all the way in the very back has also become very itchy. I used mouth wash and it burns like crazy! I also used peroxide and it bubbles & fizzes quite a bit. I cant eat anything with salt, the slightest bit burns! Even strawberries burn! Does this sound like Oral Thrush? I am 34 1/2 weeks pregnant. What could have caused this? How do I get rid of it? Will it harm my baby? Is this common in pregnancy? I never had this with my first. But then again, this pregnancy has been the complete OPPOSITE of my first. Any other ideas what it could be?
Do I have oral thrush? If so how do I treat it? Unbelievable pain!? Ok I'm going through almost unbearable pain on and off. For the past few days my throat has been very very sore,my tongue has been covered in small cream-colored patches that little bits and pieces of seem to peel off in my mouth or be scraped off. Underneath these patches are sensitive red spots and tiny tiny red bumps, it seems that just by even brushing my tongue against the roof of my mouth the tiniest bit causes them to bleed and even though I can't see them, I have felt a whole cluster of slightly larger bumps further back into my throat. On top of those, I have a couple of larger bumps on the sides and tip of my tongue and whenever, WHENEVER I try to eat or drink ANYTHING they cause my tongue to sting and burn unbelievably and makes ingesting anything extremely painful.Considering these symptoms I had the idea that I could possibly have oral thrush. I have tried cough drops, drank countless cups of tea, salt water rinse, brushing you name it. Nothing has given me comfort. I've even gone to the doctor who did absolutely nothing. When I pitched to them about possibly having oral thrush they dismissed it. All they did was test for strep and when they saw I didn't have it dismissed it as another sore throat and told me to drink fluids, pain relievers, etc. Someone please help me out, please? Can anyone tell me what I might have, how I can treat it anything! This hurts and I just want to know what I can do!
oral thrush and breast feeding,( 3wks old )? it looks like my son ( 3wks ) has thrush he only has it on his lips atm not tongue or anywhere else i am b/f how will i know if i have it on my boobs/nipples? what am i looking for? is it the same white patches? they feel fine not sore! hes seeing the health visitor today whos going to give him some gel
What could cause a very sore tip of tongue? About a week ago, I burned my tongue on something hot. I don't remember what it was, but it left me with that burned taste and feeling to my tongue for two days. Now the tip of my tongue is very, very sore to the touch and rubs against my teeth (it normally does since I have a bad overbite and willy-nilly teeth on my bottom jaw) constantly. I've been very on top of my oral hygeiene (brushing well, brushing tongue, etc) and can't figure out what it is. I don't think it's thrush. I don't have white patches or spots, or canker sores anywhere in my mouth. The tastebuds on the tip (on top and the little bit that wraps to the bottom of the tongue) are bright red and don't look happy at all. I don't have the option to see a dentist about it right now, and if this continues, I'll see my family doc. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what this may be, or how serious it is. Thanks.
Newborn with thrush... Nystatin? My one-month-old daughter, was diagnosed with thrush, two days ago, and was prescribed Nystatin. She was taken to Urgent Care, since she couldn't get in with her pediatrician, for a good while. The doc didn't write down how long to take it! I didn't notice, 'til after we left, and they are hard to get ahold of. It just says to take it until 48 hours, after symptoms resolve... Well, I couldn't even see the white patches, until he used a penlight and tongue depressor, so how am I supposed to know when it's getting better? It seems to be a very mild case. (I was told to use Lotrimin on my nipples, since I'm breastfeeding her.) She hates the stuff, and gags on it; I hate giving it to her... I've read that some people just swab it in her mouth, instead of squirting it, so baby doesn't have to swallow it... Is that good enough? Also, I've read about alternative treatments, such as Grapeseed Extract... Does this really work, and if so, what is the usual treatment? I'm still going to try to get in touch with the docs, but I figured someone on here has dealt with this, before, and could help... Thanks!
What can cause a newborn's tongue to? have an orange-hued patch on her tongue? I have an 8 week old, and ever since she was 3 weeks, she's had an orange patch on her tongue. It goes away, if scraped off, but always comes back... We've tried Nystatin (as the doc thought she had thrush), and it did nothing. We tried other home remedies, such as Grapefruit Seed Extract, baking soda in water, and Gentian Violet, and, nothing is working! Has anyone had something similar, and, if so, what is it, and what cured it? The doc prescribed Fluconazole, but, since I don't think this is thrush, I don't want to give it to her. (She has no more white patchesl she had a few, before the Nystatin.) I will be posting this in more than one place... Thanks.
do i have thrush? or no? so this has been happening for a couple of days now. i have these red spots on the roof of my mouth towards the throat area. they are a little sore, itchy and hot to the touch. i'm around 2 kids every day that are teething and i was thinking, maybe i got thrush from them. but i don't have any white patches in my mouth that i can see. my tongue is hurting a bit towards the back of it also. i don't remember burning myself with food and i don't remember eating something that scraped against the roof of my mouth. i don't see blisters, just a couple red spots. i'm 21 and i'm a smoker, so i'm very scared that it has something to do with oral cancer or gingivitis. i'm a hypochondriac, too. so should i be worried about it? what you guys all think it could be? i forgot to say that the back of my tongue has white spots on it. just not on the roof of my mouth.
Why does my tongue itch? I have this thing on my tongue that itches really bad. When i itch it hurts. I know it isn't thrush. What is it? It might be my toothpaste but i don't know. I changed toothpaste a couple days ago and there is no change. Also my doctor don't know what it is and there is a small white patch.
What would cause me to have thrush even after taking medicine for 3 weeks? Two months ago, I was on an antibiotic for a sinus infection. After I finished the dose, I noticed white blisters in my mouth. I went to the doctor and he said that I had Coxsackie virus. He gave me liquid cephalexin and told me to rinse with it to keep the blisters from getting infected. He also gave me a refill and told me that if the blisters were still there, I should get the refill and take all of it. When it came time for the refill, I had what I thought were thick patches of the blisters in my mouth (but I now know that it was thrush; I didn't know then because I'd never had it), so I got the antibiotic refilled and used it for another ten days. I still had the blisters, so I called the doctor and he told me that the virus that I had could last up to 6 weeks; he told me to wait two more weeks and see if it went away. Anyway, after two more weeks, I finally got into see the doctor and he said that I had thrush. Now, by this time, I not only had white bumps all over my tongue and cheeks and a whitish/yellow coating on my tongue, I also had large bumps, about 2-3 cm in size on the back of my tongue and reddish bumps on the tip of my tongue. The doctor put me on flucasozone and nystatin, but two weeks later, the thrush had actually gotten worse. So, I went back to the doctor and he gave me diflucan (same as flucasozone?) and more nystatin. It's been a week since my last doctor's visit and I haven't seen any improvement. I have another appointment next week, but I'm getting really concerned. I've also noticed that my teeth just suddenly got loose almost overnight. My teeth are only slightly loose, just enough to feel them moving when I chew food (but it really hurts) and it's almost all my teeth. I still have the bumps on the back of my tongue (they kinda look like what they call "water blisters") and there's about 20 of them, which makes it really hard to eat. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Thank you for your quick answers. I did forget to mention that I have been eating active culture yogurt for the last two weeks, and yes, also avoiding sugar and breads, which my doctor suggested. I guess my main question is, should I be concerned that the thrush isn't responding to the medicine or am I looking for results too soon? I've never had any type of yeast/fungal infection, so I'm clueless. And I haven't been able to eat anything firmer than oatmeal for two months, so I'm losing weight like crazy. Which was fine when this started and I was 40 lbs overweight, but now I'm no longer overweight and I'm still losing weight. (Seriously, people are starting to ask if I have cancer or something.) How long should it reasonably take to get rid of thrush?
My friend probably has oral thrush.....URGENT!!!? So hes had for a week and has gone to the hospital. He was tested negative for strep, but when he brought up oral thrush to the doctor the doctor took a look and said he doesn't THINK it's oral thrush although my friend clearly shows signs of it: cream color patches with red spots and bumps underneath that bleed when I scrape them, burning sensation around mouth throat and tongue. The only remedy the doctor told him was to drink fluids. hes been doing that and its not helping. My friend can't eat without feeling pain and he is already ill from another life threatening condition. He hasn't eaten in days. Does n e one have any advice that could help him with dealing with this? I'm really worried.

Is this oral thrush again? I have been putting Daktarin gel on my tongue for almost a week because of oral thrush which I got from a course of antibiotics. I thought it was clearing up as there was only a small yellow patch left at the back of my tongue. But now my whole tongue has got a white covering is it the thrush coming back again?
Something is wrong with my tongue...... Please help? I pierced my tongue 3 weeks ago. It was healing up fine until it looked like it started to get infected, I got scared, took out the barbell and cleaned it out really good. The next morning it looked a lot better, so I tried to put the barbell back in.. There wasn't any resistance coming from the bottom to the top, but if I tried from top to bottom, it wouldn't go in.. After that point, it started swelling up again, so I figured I basically re pierced it and would just take care of it to call good.. Welll... Now. The swelling has gone down, however, new symptoms have come up. My gums are getting pretty swollen and sensitive, they bled when i brushed them lightly this morning, just a little bit.. I also have this little red patch slightly off center closer to the tip of my tongue.. It looks like a patch of swollen red taste buds basically, it's pretty small, but very sensitive. Also have some other taste buds near the front of my tongue that kind of feel like thorns almost in my mouth? Also the hole where the barbell is still in, up top it almost looks like what a cold sore would look like.. I know I did a bad job describing that, but I think it's only the skin toughing up for the barbell... What is wrong :S? Is it Thrush? What can I do to help it =/? Please help!
I think i have oral thrush but it won't clear up....? On the side of my tongue i have like a white fluffy coating and i can bite it off but it grows back, sometimes it bleeds if i bite it and sometimes it just goes but then grows back so i tried leaving it alone to see if it would clear but it just spread. It started off as a little patch and my mum got me some thrush treatment from the chemist and i used it but it just spread up one side, i have really good mouth hygiene because i always brush my tongue thoroughly but for some reason it just won't go and it's been here for like 6 months so i'm thinking maybe it's not thrush... any ideas what it could be or if it is thrush? My mum won't take me to a doctor because she thinks it's not worth it. Thanks, =]

What does thrush look like when it first starts? I noticed today that on the tip or end of my infant son's mouth is a rough patchy area, redder than the rest of his tongue and looks like its getting tiny white dots on it. There is no thick white patch and I don't see it anywhere else in his mouth. I breastfeed, and my nipples look completely fine but I did notice that one of them feels a little sore since yesterday. There are no other signs of anything else on my baby or me. However, I've heard of thrush and read a little on it but all the info I find tells me about when it's full blown thrush and nothing on how it would look when it starts. Baby has an appt on 9/25 but that's just way too long for me to sit without info. Is this the start of thrush? If so: What can I do to make this go away (other than antibiotics)? Would we BOTH need to take antibiotics? Is there anything I can do to prevent this from getting worse? I hear this is could be a result of not sanitizing his pacifiers often enough, so how often should I sanitize his pacifiers? Is there anything else that could've caused this? Any help is truly appreciated! Thank you! This is a serious question* - no STUPID-A** answers please. thank you.. baby is 5 months old I had no infections at delivery fyi: thrush is a bacterial infection - does not always come from moms crystle, i didnt do that thumbs down.. thanks for you answer...
Having every symptom of HIV but negative test at 21 weeks-just over 5 months...HELP? had an exposure 51/2 months ago in healthcare where a droplet of blood went in to my eye. So I called the PEP hotline and spoke with about 6-7 Drs. all telling me that due to the low chances and me being pregnant they wouldnt recommend PEP chance of transmission is low. Anyways, we asked the patient of his status he states he didnt have anything but refused an HIV test. None the less the Docs felt that even if the pt had HIV such an inoculation would not cause disease. However, after the PEP window passed I lost my mind. I was convinced that the patient lied and I was doomed. Sure enough about 8 days later ARS started...I got loose stools for 2 days, Night sweats for about 2 weeks, Thrush on my tongue (confirmed), white patches on my tongue, hariy looking papilla and fissures on the tip of my tongue, Burning sensation in my esophagus and lips....And still 5 months later my symptoms persist and more have come about such as numbness in my thighs (femerol nerve) not sciatica, sores on my body that are healing slowly, shortness of breath, insomnia/ fatigue and all I can think about is that I am DYING of HIV. Despite all my symptoms all of my tests have been negative thus far... Oral Swab at 3 weeks- NEG I had a PCR-RNA test at 35 days- NEG; no virus detected; less than 48 copies/1.7 ml Oral swab at 6 weeks- NEG Antibody blood test for HIV 1/2, HEP C, Sypillis at 8 weeks- NEG Antibody blood test for HIV 1/2, HEP C, Syphillis at 12 weeks- NEG Antibody blood test for HIV 1/2, HEP C, Syphillis at 5 months and 1 week- NEG My questions are: 1) Could pregnancy and extreme stress delay seroconversion? 2) What about coinfection with Hep C? 3) Can having Latent TB delay seroconversion? 4) Everyone keeps tellling me that the 3 month test is conclusive but I cannot let go...HAS ANYONE YOU KNOW OR HEARD OF TESTED + PAST 3 MONTHS? 5) And what of my symptoms? they are very strange and more like HIV than pregnancy-related...Should I expect them to just magically go away? 6) Is testing out to 1 yr a thing of the past? The CDC states 6 mths as the last test...Is that 100% accurate? 7) what would you suggest for me? I need to put this behind me before my baby is due in 1 month. PLEASE HELP!
small white patches ONLY on tonsils...? What might that be? I have a cold as well, if that helps... As far as I've researched, its not thrush, b/c that seems to be all through the mouth (cheeks, tongue, etc) Anyone know? Thanks!!
Can I pass this on to my husband? I have a 1 week old baby, and both me and her have developed thrush from antiobiotics. I have a mild case in my mouth, just burning, no white patches. My daughter has it in her mouth, and she passed it to my nipples since I breastfeed. We are starting treatment tonight. if I gave my husband oral sex, can I give him a yeast infection of the penis, since I have a mild case of oral thrush? Once again, there is no white patches, just burning tongue, and my dr confirmed it was thrush. Thanks for any help.
What is this from im starting to get nervous? Ive had a sinus infection for 2months it turned into bronchitis i took antibiotics to get rid of the sinus infection and kill any bacteria trying to get into my lungs or bronchia, im over bronchitis and now i have this disgusting white stuff on my tongue with red patches at the back of my tongue it goes away during the day but it comes back in the morning i read its called thrush and could this be caused from my immune system fighting off the bronchitis and wasnt ready for the thrush infection?...i dont have a healthy lifestyle that much either...i usually lazy around the house, eat fatty foods, im not over weight like 10 pounds before becoming overweight, i rarely get to eat vegatables...even tho i love them i drink pop alot...im a virgin too but i woke up one morning since i sleep in the nude and my cat was sitting on my genitals. All this started when i got the flu not the stomach flu the influenza stuff and it was the flu, the doctors diagnosed me with it and tested me. What should i do?
Possible diabetic? In the past 3 months, I have had 2 yeast infections, and my tongue was having this "itchy" feeling. My doc prescribed Diflucan and the feeling disappeared. I thought it was thrush, but I highly doubt it as I did not have any of the white patches on my tongue. Now, I got a cut in between two of my toes. It healed but those two toes feel a "bit" numb or I guess "tingly." I have been freaking out and I think I'm beginning to feel my arms and legs get numb more easily. Also, how long does it take for advanced stages of diabetes? My mother checked my sugar on her little (machine?) I guess and my levels were normal (It was after I had something to eat, too.) The check was about maybe 2-3 years ago. Is it possible that I have developed diabetes, and if so, could it be considered advanced? I am worried about the numb/tingly feeling between the two toes specfically. My left arm also feels a bit tingly right now. I made an appointment to test for diabetes, but I just wanted some input.
Anyone had any of these problems in pregnancy? im now 24 weeks pregnant and have had a few things that may or may not be connected to pregnancy. At the beginning of the pregnancy i had a very swore swollen leg. midwife and doctors said it was nothing to worry about and was not DVT or a blood clot of any kind. It got better but this morning i woke up and its back. anyone had this problem? what did they do to help it a bit? This next one might have nothing to do with pregnancy but ive never noticed it happen before now. Over the last 4 weeks ive had red patches appear on my tongue. (i have a rather white tongue normally, always have done). These patches are really defined and looks a little bit like graphic tongue, but as ive said ive never noticed it before. I first thought it might be oral thrush caused by lack of something in my diet since baby was conceived. Was worried because I hear that people with diabetes can get oral thrush, and i haven't had my diabetes test done yet. Doctor just said its not thrush and gave me an anti bac mouth wash. The mouth wash didn't work. Anyone had this while being pregnant? And what helped?

Afraid to have contracted this disease two years ago, please a doctor help me...? Can someone answer me,please? Two years ago i was walking with a friend of mine who has a son(at the time 2 years old)and while we were talking he found a syringe with a nedle and when i saw him i tried to remove it from his hand and i am afraid that while i was doing this the nedle penetrated into my skin, exactly in the palm of my hand. There was no blood but i had the feeling that the nedle penetrated my skin.I have never had sex(i am 20 but it is not strange in the culture of my country to be virgin at this age), or made use of drugs, and i am getting crazy when i think that i may have contracted Aids.I have suffered from thrush of the mouth since i was 14 but in these two years it also happened to me to have mouth herpes(small ones occurring rarely) i have got flu one time each year, but now i cought a cold and i am having coughs and sneezing and headache.I refused to go out with the guy i like because i am afraid, i may have Aids, i have a job interview but they are going to make me a medical clearance prior to employement.I have not had symptoms such as rushes, fever or diarrea, but my tongue looks strange ,it is coated with patches, fissures and some times with some white lines on both sides, can this be hairy leukoplakia.Twice i had sweats before menstuations i think, but my friend at the medicine faculty says that this time i cought a cold very easily.Aids is not frequent in my country and i think that the syringe was there a day before i touched it,but still i am really getting crazy. How long can the virus of Aids survive in the nedle of the syringe.I am afraid to lose the guy i love and the best job i could ever have, and above all the idea people have of me.Please if a doctor sees this..help me!Sorry for my english, i am a foreigner.Please,please,please...
I've been feeling sick lately and not sure what I have...? For the first few days I had a headache, sore throat and congested nose. Then my tongue started furry and white (but not anything bright or splotchy like thrush) and I had these odd bald patches. My sore throat got worse, and when I looked at my throat in a mirror I could see a big yellow sore in the back. I still have headaches and experienced minor aches. I don't think I have strep, because there are no red dots on the back of my throat. If so, what do I have?
is this a reaction or what? i was on antibiotics for bronchitis and now i have oral thrush or it looks like it, i taste blood when i brush my tongue, and the whiteness wont go away, should i go to a doctor or try to wait it out? im just annoyed by it really, the red patches are painless but i have a gross taste on my tongue. Any ideas dont just say we cant diagnose you here, i just want to know if the thrush or whatever is serious.
strep throat?? Yesterday morning I woke up with a sore throat and it just felt very dry and sore. By that same afternoon I began to get chills and I was freezing and it was 80 degrees outside. Shortly after I developed a fever of 102 and took tylenol and it went back down. 4 to 5 hours later my fever came back and it was at 101. I took tylenol again and its been about 19 hours and my fever has not returned. I still have a sore throat and developed a white patch in the back of my throat and my tonsils are very red and swollen. I am going to go to the doc tomorrow but I jus wanted to kno if you think thta this is strep. I looked up what it could be and I came up with tonsilitis which is very similar to strep and oral thrush which is not usually accompanied by fever chills and body aches. Also thrush usually begins on the tongue and inner cheeks. Please tell me what you think thanks!
Can you Visit the ER for Oral Cancer Concerns? I am concerned about several issues i have that match up with oral cancer symptoms. Around 7 years ago i had a swollen throat with bumps making it hard to speak and swallow and also i have and still have large to small white bumps in the back of my throat. I was misdiagnosed with strep and giving amoxicillin which in the end i turned out to be allergic to...(resulting in almost sufficating and now i have bumps on my stomach and scaring resulting from the hives) and even with the other medications to relieve it, the problem kept reoccuring every other week or so. After the misdiagnosis, they re-diagnosed me with having mono. However, mono is similar to chicken pox and it is supposedly rare for an individual who already showed the illness to get sick from it again due to the gain of immunity...and yet even today i get the throat illness, like the other day. It sometimes lasts a week to 2 weeks. 3 years after first symptoms, i began to notice loosening of my teeth and because of fear of my teeth fallin out ive suffered from plenty of nightmares lol. I went to a dentist to see what was wrong, and they claimed my teeth were in perfect condition(which they arnt lol) Now a year ago, i noticed a patch on the left side of my tongue where the taste buds were like gone...and it felt numb. Soon a white patch appeared on the area, and its been there since. there are swallon taste buds around it. i was told it could possibly just be thrush, but it didnt match with pictures relating to thrush in my own opinion. So i have ignored it since, but recently, they have been sore and a circular spot has appeared on the right side now and there was a small cut or somethin across the white patch that hurt alot. I dont smoke nor do i drink, but i grew up around 2nd hand smoking. I also had a condition when i was little and until recently where i would chew at the inside of my cheeks unconciously when i felt nervous, stressful, and when i was feeling anxiety. I read on many sites and in a few medical books that changes(sores, cuts, etc) or irritation can also lead to the development of oral cancer however it is more rare under those circumstances...But ive been doing it since i was a toddler and i am now 20 years old so that doesnt really look good. My cheeks are covered in white scarring and bumps. When i feel around with my tongue in my mouth, the saliva glads have a coppery sensation on my tongue. When i eat certain foods, especially breads, my mouth gets bumps and feels extremely sore. My gums are also white in alot of places and i have bad teeth in the first place beause i lacked insurance for a while, and couldnt afford a doctor or dentist(no dentists in town accept pple without insurance and only one accepts medicaid so its hard to get in anyways) under my tongue, where the gland or duct or w/e is, there is a lump on the right side bottom of my mouth. Also, 3 years ago, i also had an accident where i got hit with a golf ball on my upper lip and it split open. its healed, but scared badly and when i get dry lips, the wound reopens, even tho its been so long. its resulted in a bad scar. And i heard when i was in hs, a wound that does not heal is not a good one, as it often is a symptom of cancer. Also, recently ive had back neck problems as if someone was dragging a razor across the back of my neck. I was prescribed muscle relaxers and pain relievers, neither of which even have any effect on me. i also suffer really bad headaches from unknown causes...no store bought medicines have helped releave the pain not even naproxen. i had a ct scan done on my neck and head and they said it was perfectly fine. In the past, when i first had the throat problems, i had a ct scan and they also said i was fine. they also couldnt figure out the cause of my high heartrate that rapidly rises when i move leading to blackouts. that issue was olong ago forgotten when i lost insurance. (i have medicaid now) Ah sorry for talkin so much... basically, can i visit the ER to get my tongue n such looked out. a visit to the dentist will take a month to 3 just to get an appointmet.(my mom had to wait 4 months even tho she had a bad tooth infection that made her sick) Ive tried to set up a dentist appointment recently but they said it could take up to a month or so, and if its anything bad i already let it go on for years now...so i kinda dont wanna wait that long. also theres no chance of it being an std. ive only been with one partner whome is my fiance. They didnt really do anything and barely let me talk in the first place, but they gave me a prescription for Nystatin swish n swallow mouthwash style medicine..
Do I have thrush? My tongue always is white on top whenever I wake up, or don't brush my teeth. It's not various little patches, just one layer. I have no other white patch things anywhere.
My baby's tounge looks sore? My 4 month old baby has got red patches on her tongue and has had them for about 3 weeks, we went to the doctor as they looked sore and the doctor said it was a non specific viral infection and would clear up in about 7 - 10 days but this has not happened, it's not thrush as she had thrush when she was a few weeks old with a white tongue and we treated it and it never came back. The sores look a bit like popped blisters, is it possible that these have developed from sucking on her toys? I would appreciate any feedback as I have tried to research this topic but am unable to find anything, thanks
Why on earth does my baby tolerate Good Start Natural Cultures (now Protect Plus) but not regular Good Start? My 8 week old is having eating issues... originally on Similac Advance from hospital, but then switched to Similac Sensitive... He was spitting up/seemed fussy so we switched him to Good Start Natural Cultures.. seemed to drink it okay but slowly but surely eating less and less at a time. We tried to switch him to the regular Good Start (GS was recommended by pedi.), but that did NOT work at all, he cried WHILE on the bottle, cried for hours after, etc., it just was not for him. SO we immediately put him back on Natural Cultures. Seemed okay, but now he is getting fussier and fussier, is crying at the bottle, crying for no reason, arching back, he wants to eat, but then when he starts sucking he starts crying and pulls away. Okay so here is where it gets really complicated. Talked to pediatrician, took baby in and she said looks like Thrush (again). The medicine seems to help him drink his formula better but he still cries and it's hard to have him finish a bottle (he's drinking 1-3.5 oz. at a time, but mostly between 1 and 2 oz., and wakes up every hour during the day, which is wierd, he is better at night). Okay so possibly it's thrush. Now, I went against what the pedi. said and went with my maternal instinct, and something tells me that something in the formula is bothering him. We had a leftover unopened bottle of Similac Sensitive. Out of desperation, I opened it, prepared a bottle and added Mylecon for the gas, and he GUZZLED IT. No joke, he even was SMILING when he was drinking it---not a TEAR in sight. He then fell asleep like a log. We are going to finish the bottle of Similac AND still give him his Nystatin for the thrush, if that's what he has. If the crying stays decreased, then I can assume its the formula or the formula and thrush as well (he does seem to have the white patches), but not just thrush. Now. Then. It gets even more complicated (or I am just FREAKING out here.. I'm a new mom, please cut me slack). I had two bouts of Mastitis, and indeed it was Mastitis, when I was pumping my milk for him. I took antibiotics, which what do you know, it can cause thrush. But reading on information online, I think I actually had thrush myself in the breast tissue from way back in the beginning---because I had SHOOTING pain in my breasts, all over, it felt like needles being inserted quickly into my breast. This could have contributed to my son not latching properly, as he would scream his head off when I tried to BF him the first few weeks. OKAY. There's that. So.......... is it thrush??? OR REFLUX??? OR COWS MILK ALLERGY?? I am going crazy here. I read that the probiotics that are in Natural Cultures help break down lactose in the formula/milk itself. Could explain why he could tolerate Natural Cultures and not the regular Good Start. I just find this piece of the puzzle so strange, as I have done hours of research online and it seems that people switch TO the regular Good STart for fussiness and gas and reflux sort of issues. Okay, well, for whatever reason, I tried to cut down on my drinking milk (I drank GALLONS when i was pregnant, thats all I craved) when I was pumping and giving my breastmilk for my son, and I still have "baby brain" so I can't recall WHY i thought to cut back on milk when I was giving him my milk.... perhaps because I thought he was allergic to cows milk? Could my drinking of so much milk while pregnant given him sensitivity? So is it everything? Thrush, cows milk allergy, reflux? Or just the first two??? My pedi. says that symptoms of thrush are same as reflux, so it's hard to tell (besides the white tongue thing). If he continues to cry then I suppose it's reflux (pedi. says crying from thrush shoudl improve well within 48 hours of meds) and not cows milk allergy, but if he's improved then I assume it's thrush and cows milk allergy and not reflux? or just thrush? in which case do i switch him back to natural cultures? I can imagine anyone reading this thinks I am absolutely insane. Indeed, I feel like I am going insane. He did cry a little at the last feeding, but NOTHING like he was doing early today on Natural Cultures, and I also think it's because of the fact that he's not getting enough in a feeding, he becomes ravenous like that and he was frantically screaming to be fed, just all of the sudden, and I didn't have his bottle ready and he was just besides himself, so it was hard to calm him down from that. But overall he is crying WAY less, it could be medicine working or formula switch... and im confused as to the difference between reflux and cows milk allergy?? are they related? Ugh. So sorry this is so long.
