Is this thrush??
Today I noticed that my 3-month-old has white spots all over the tip of her tongue. I thought it was milk curds but I couldn't brush them away, so I immediately realized it was probably thrush. However, I looked up "thrush" on a baby care website and in my What to Expect the First Year book, and they both say that thrush occurs mostly on the insides of the baby's cheeks, but there are no spots on the insides of my baby's cheeks; only on her tongue. There's also some white residue on the inside of her lower lip. By the way, I had her c-section, so there's not much of a chance that she could have "caught" the yeast by going thru the birth canal (my sources explained that this is most often how babies get thrush). Do you other moms out there have any ideas? Could it still be thrush anyway? And what can I do about it? Thanks!!

- no
- You will have to take baby to see docter as you cannot get medicine to treat it over the counter- defo sounds like oral thrush!.. My baby had it also!..
- Go to the pediatrician to ask. I always thought the white bumps in the mouth were thrush.
- SOUNDS LIKE IT
- I don't know, but please talk to a doctor just to be safe.
- yes my nephew had it...i thought it was milk also that he spit up..but it was thrush...have a docter check it out..they can give the baby somthing for it...good luck
- It might be.
- Yes it sounds like it could be. Clear your schedule for a doctor visit tomorrow :(
- Is she on anti-biotics? I'm pretty sure that can cause thrush too.
- it might be.. in the very beginning both of my daughters had it only on there tongues and on the inside of the lower lip. If tomorrow there is more and if when you wipe at it, it starts to bleed then it is prob thrush. If you are nursing and you nipples appear whitish or extremely red than go to the Dr. cause it is probably thrush.
- yes it is thrush, caused usually by a yeast infection...Its very simple to treat but does require a prescription medication...You should see the doctor first thing in the morning, as it will make the baby's mouth very sore, and tender, making it hard for her to suck a bottle, if not treated soon. There are any number of ways the baby could have gotten it, not just coming through the birth canal..
- Yes it could be thrush, if you have caught it in the early stages, it usually isn't noticable though until the tongue AND inside of the cheeks are covered white. If you are breastfeeding than the chances are pretty high that it is thrush if your bottle feeding not likely it is thrush. If it is a little prescription from the doc for some oral nystatin will take care of it no problem. If you are bfing make sure that you keep wet nursing pads of your nips and let them air dry--yeast will grow in damp and soggy places like wet nursing pads and on your nips.
- yes it sounds like thrush white bumps on the tongue that cant be brushed away describes thrush exactly. my baby had it when she was a few months old but i breast fed Oral thrush usually produces creamy white lesions on your tongue and inner cheeks and sometimes on the roof of your mouth, gums and tonsils. The lesions, which resemble cottage cheese, can be painful and may bleed slightly when rubbed or scraped. Although signs and symptoms often develop suddenly, they may persist for a long period of time. If you're breast-feeding an infant who has oral thrush, you and your baby will do best if you're both treated. Otherwise, you're likely to pass the infection back and forth. Your doctor may prescribe a mild antifungal medication for your baby and an antifungal cream for your breasts. If your baby uses a pacifier or feeds from a bottle, wash and rinse nipples and pacifiers every day until the thrush clears up.
- My daughter had thrush and it was on her tongue. Doesn't matter about the csection the yeast will travel into the uterus. bring baby to the doctor and they will give you a prescription for a liquid anti-fungal to put in the babies mouth. It may cause loosening of the stool.
- Yes that could very well be thrush. Take her to her pediatrician and she will be prescribed with some nystatin, If you wait the thrush will just spread, and could end up on her bottom too (it looks a lot like diaper rash, but is harder to get rid of)
- My daughter had the exact same problem. It was only on her tongue and not very much. It wouldn't come off when wiped. It didn't seem to bother her. The doctor said it probably wasn't thrush since it wasn't on her cheeks but he treated as thrush anyways. He gave us Nystatin. I swear by it. It works for everything. Thrush, stubborn diaper rashes, athletes foot, jock itch, Everything. So ask the doctor to prescribe you some Nystatin then you put a dropper full in your baby's mouth. In about two days you'll notice a difference.
- Sounds like it to me I would take the baby to the doctor to have it checked. Good Luck
- Oral thrush causes creamy white lesions, usually on your tongue or inner cheeks. The lesions can be painful and may bleed slightly when you scrape them or brush your teeth. Sometimes oral thrush may spread to the roof of your mouth, your gums, tonsils or the back of your throat. Although oral thrush can affect anyone, it occurs most often in babies and toddlers, older adults, and people whose immune systems have been compromised by illness or medications. Oral thrush is a minor problem for healthy children and adults, but for those with weakened immune systems, symptoms of oral thrush may be more severe, widespread and difficult to control.
- It could be very well that it is thrush. My daughter caught it when she was almost a year old and she had it inside on her checks area and on her tongue. You'll have to take her to the doctors to get a prescription for it. I think that's the only way to get rid of it. The other possibility is that she might have little sores on her tongue, but I have never heard of a three month old with them. I would call the doctors and get in as soon as possible. Good luck
- more than likely just the milk and sometimes thats just the way it is if your child has recently been on antibiotics then they could get thrush ... i know this sounds funny but it would laso make their breath smell different... my child got it becasu eof antibiotics and i too had to be treated becasu ehe could have passed in on to me with brestfeeding... lol sounds crazy but its true
- when a baby has thrush the insides of their little mouths get sore and it disrupts their suckling if she is showing signs of discomfort during feeding you should have her doctor see her, the thrush medicine is just a couple of little drops inside of her mouth but if there is no signs of discomfort it is probably something my dentist calls "Geographic Tongue" which is white spots (kind of looks like islands on a map) inside of your mouth, not necessarily on the tongue. Mom, you are doing a good job! Staying in touch with your baby is it biggest step in being a good mother!
- it is probbaly thrush and this may sound gross but take a wet diaper and put it in the babys mouth it will get rid of it promise
- What you are describing sounds like thrush, have you tried taking one of the baby wash cloths, get it wet with warm water and wiping his/her mouth out, but if you are really worried I'd take your baby to the doctor and they can tell you for sure. Good Luck
- Sounds like it may be thrush. White spots usually start on the tongue then progress to inner cheeks of mouth, but keep in mind, some babies may show no symptoms at all... Also, having a cesarean delivery actually increases your odds for developing thrush because the antibiotics women are given after c-sections can throw off the natural balances and lead to an over growth of yeast (thrush). I'd say, are there any other signs? Painful breastfeeding or bright red diaper rash on baby's bum? If you're convinced it is thrush, I'd say start with gentian violet now, to prevent an outbreak, it's available over-the-counter. Best regards.
- Sounds like thrush to me. My son got it when he was about 4 months old. It was on his tongue as well as his cheeks. They can still get it without having gone through the birth canal. My son was also born via c-section. They can sometimes develop it if they are in daycare and one of the other children there has it. You should take him to the doctor and they will give you something to treat it.
- I sounds like it could be thrush. I would go to the doctor because this sometimes can be painful for babies. If you don't already make sure that you are boiling nipples for bottles as this can cause thrush.
- I belive it is thrush, my daughter had the same thing and the dr. told me it was thrush,he gave me a wonderful over the counter med but its been so maney years that I cant remember the name. sorry
- It definitely sounds like thrush...my daughter had thrush and ONLY had it on her tongue (not on her cheeks, etc..)
