  1. Thrush is from your brestfeeding as you know, just use a baby wipe to clean your nipple before feeding the baby, the alcohol in the wipes should kill any bacteria so this wont happen again. If your 2 year old kissed the baby or put a bottle in his mouth after the baby used it, that is how he could have gotten it. It is really just bacteria, so your nipples could look perfectly fine, just keep an eye out for an infection in you. Yes it can get worse if not treated, just follow the DR's directions and it should be fine. As long as there is no fevers, then they should be fine to go to daycare. I would call the DR and see if there is another prescription for your 2 year old that is easier of use, if you don't have great access to your DR, walk into any pharmacy (like Walmart) and ask them what would be a good substitute and then try to get that prescription. Thrush normally lasts anywhere from a few days to a couple weeks, it just varies, so there is no way to really tell when they will heal. I wish you luck!!
  2. Thrush is a nasty little bacteria..it can get worse, but it's not a very serious illness if treated effectively. It can however be painful for baby. As far as I know, there are no other medical treatments for thrush than the icky purple nyastatin =(..not sure if there are natural remedies?? My son had thrush when I was breastfeeding..it's basically a yeast infection in the mouth/and or nipple area..gross I know..even though you do not show symptoms of thrush..you should have gotten a cream to apply to your nipples to cure it. You don't have to have symptoms to pass it back and forth..def..throw away any binkies baby might have used. Good luck to you from a mom of five =)
  3. its just a yeast infection. give your babies plenty of yogurt!!! that will treat AND prevent!! also, use lanolin to protect your nipples even more!
  4. Nystatin isn't purple, at least my daughter's wasn't. I have had 2 girls with thrush. My 4 year old, and my 3 month old. I will say, Nystatin does not work very well, or you have to go through several prescriptions. Liquid Diflucan works the best, and will kill any thrush. Dr's like to use nystatin first, because it doesn't travel through the bloodstream, so safer.Thrush infection isn't serious, and might go away on it's own. I would treat it like you are, because it CAN get worse. I bet your 2 year old kissed the baby or put his/her binky in his/her own mouth. Make sure you are wiping off your nipples after every feed. I have had thrush from both my girls when they were newborns, it is the worst shooting pain ever. If the Nystatin doesn't work, please ask for liquid Diflucan. If you don't believe me, do a google search to see just how many people that nystatin cures their thrush. Good luck to you. Also, boil the pacifiers/bottle nipples several times a day for 5-7 minutes. it has to be boiled, or it will remain. I know it sucks, I actually have to call the dr. in the morning to get diflucan for my baby girl, It does get better though.
