Tongue Thrush

Cure for thrush on the tongue of an adult?

I have thrush on the inside of my mouth. I know it is thrush because my babies have had it before. I got it from getting my tongue pierced and over rinsing with listerine. Are there any cures for thrush besides going to a doctor. I have use gentain violet and it did not work. I used it for 4-5 days straight and the thrush still camr back. It is only on my tongue it is not on the insides of my cheeks or anything.

  1. Sorry, but thrush is a yeast infection in your mouth. You need to see a doctor to get it cleared up if it hasn't gone away by now. Try calling your doctor, instead, to see if he'll just call something in for you?
  2. brush your teeth more. sounds silly but works.
  3. over rinsing with listerine has infact the contrary effect... If it is not cleared away by brushing, It might not be what you think it is. If you are not a heavy smoker, or used large spectrum antibiotics for a long time and sure that you brush your tongue well then you should worry. Why your babies had it cause their immune system wasn't completely working when they were young, but if the same is happening in an adult, there might be a serious health issue.
  4. Thrush is a fungal infection, so you must see a physician, who will probably prescribe a mouthrinse ("swish and swallow") or a troche, which is a sort of lozenge you dissolve in your mouth. Do the patches scrape off easily, without redness underneath or pain? If so, they may not be thrush. I'm sure you know (as you stated) what thrush is, but sometimes a B-vitamin deficiency can cause thrush-like signs in the mouth and on the lips. As you've discovered, gentian violet doesn't always work for thrush. And if you smoke, thrush can be especially hard to get rid of. My personal advice is to see a physician.
  5. Your dentist can prescribe a medicine for it. Oral diflucan or nystatin powder/liquid.
