- Thats because his tounge is itchy and sore. Thrush is basically a white rash on there tounge and the roof of there mouth my son had it really bad i went too the pediatrition and they gave him medicine for it and it was gone in less then a week.
- How old is your baby? If he's still very young, and the pain is only for the first 15-20 seconds, it could your body adjusting to the constant friction of nursing. Do you have any other thrush symptoms? See here for a list: http://breastfeeding.hypermart.net/thrush.html Sometimes, the baby's mouth can appear white from milk. Have you tried rubbing the white spots? If they don't come off or lighten, it could be thrush. Just for the record, antibiotics aren't used to treat thrush - antifungals are. Antibiotics can actually lead to thrush. It sounds like his wet diapers and nursing is going well, otherwise. As long as he's wetting enough diapers and gaining well, it sounds like you're doing fine, other than the pain. One thing you can do, if you suspect thrush, is call your local pharmacy and see if they have gentian violet. It's a natural extract that kills yeast, and you can buy it at the pharmacy. Here's how to use it: http://www.kellymom.com/newman/06gentian_violet.html Here's some more info on thrush: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/thrush/thrush-resources.html And here's some info on sore nipples: http://www.breastfeed-essentials.com/sorenipples.html ETA: I just looked at one of your other questions, and I see that your baby is about a month old. That being the case, it sounds like thrush could be more likely, since any soreness related to initial adjustment to nursing would probably be over by now. I recommend gentian violet for any thrush issues. It worked great for me. I have a link somewhere with some other natural thrush/yeast remedies. I'll see if I can find it for you. ETA: Here's the link. Note that "Candida" is the spore that causes yeast/thrush: http://www.candida-cure-recipes.com/home-remedy-for-thrush.html Also, you might want to get a probiotic for both you and your baby. They make powdered probiotics for babies and capsules for adults. That will help restore your body's natural balance of good bacterial flora, which help fight yeast/thrush.
- I just went thru this with my 2 month old. I noticed he had a white tongue since a few weeks old but I just thought it was the breast milk. I tried to wipe it off but would not come off, I still thought nothing of it. I starting having shooting pains in my left breast only and then I looked up thrush, never went to the doctor because its just yeast infection. I got the gentian violet, put it on a q-tip and swabbed his mouth and my nipples. In the two days I used it it started clearing up, I stopped using it because it is very messy and it stains(my sons lips were purple for three days and I could not take him out any where). I started using apple cider vinegar on my nipples and it cleared up the next day. The thrush in his mouth is almost gone as well.
- my son had thrust at 2 months and my doctor said ita like a yeast infection in your mouth so its very painful. if hes taking his bubba still and every thing is normal with feedings hes fine. if you are worried about it tho go see a doctor.
