Oral thrush in newborn baby?
Does anyone had any experience in dealing with Thrush in newborn babies? My grandson is in Foster Care, and during our visit with him yesterday...we noticed that his tongue was completely white...it looked like a thick covering of chalk! It was also on his upper and lower lips. I have seen thrush before, but never this severe! I have also looked on the internet for pictures of thrush, and have found none that comes near to comparing to the severity of what is in my grandson's mouth!) The Foster parent stated that it had just started the night before. Is it possible for for thrush to get this severe within 24 hours?

- My son had thrush badly also..And no, it didnt get that bad very fast..it slowly got worse..I got a prescription from the doctor and it was gone in a week or so..I would take action on that if possible..they should have had him at the doctor the first sign of white on his tounge..it is painful for babies to eat with thrush. My son had to go to 12m nipples at 2 months to avoid having to suck.. Good luck
- Maybe not 24 hours, but it can get pretty bad over the course of two days or so. I was suprized how quickly it developed with my son. His mouth was clear one day, and almost covered in white two days later. I just got some Nysatin from his doc, and boiled his nipples. It's clearing up almost as quickly as it formed.
