Tongue Thrush

My babies tongue is white?

My baby's tongue is white from feeding, I am breastfeeding so I thought it was thrush (a yeast infection) but when I went to the doctor he said I do not have any breast infections. Is this normal for the baby's tongue to be white?

  1. Yes, and if it has red pulsating zits on it, that is okay too. Just be sure to pop them.
  2. So what did the Dr. tell you it was? (If not Thrush?)
  3. It's from the milk build up. Just genlty wipe the baby's tongue with a clean baby washcloth. You should do this twice daily and the same when the teeth start to come in.
  4. sometimes the milk does it.
  5. Yeah it is just film from the milk, dont worry about it. If it was thrush you would know it because the Baby would not want to eat. It is extremely painful. Check back with the doctor if the baby stops eating.
  6. its just from the milk nothing to worry about
  7. I did not have a breast infection but my baby still had thrush. I would take the baby to the Pediatrician... it sounds like thrush to me. Good luck.
  8. how long does it stay white? a lot of times the tongue will look white for up to an hour after feeding. does the white stuff scrape off, or does it stay there? thrush will stay put, while milk will scrape off. you may not have thrush on your nipples yet and your baby may still have thrush. did your doctor look in your baby's mouth, or just at your breasts? was it your doctor, or the pedi? i would definitely take your baby to his/her pediatrician just to be on the safe side.
  9. As far as I know, yes it normal. I think it's from the milk. If you're still nervous, check webmd.com, it's very informative.
  10. Both my babies often had white tongues and I too was told that it was probably thrush, though I did not breastfeed either of them. The GP said it was probably just as a result of them having the bottle teat in their mouths for too long. I tried feeding them a couple of spoonfulls of 'live' yoghurt and this did seem to help.
  11. Oh, my God. Not necesarely normal but harmless
  12. As lond as the doctor has checked the baby for thrush it is fine. Both my kids had white toungues now and again from feeding. Make sure you get the baby checked though because thrush can come from other sources than just you.
  13. Well you do not have to have thrush for your baby to have it so I am not sure about your DR. However it could just be milky build up and is harmless though could cause bad breath.
  14. Mine had that too. It's normal.
  15. it's build up from milk just take a washcloth and gently wipe the baby's tongue.
  16. how long did the baby have a whit e toungue. it might be just when you drink something that is white the tongue builds up a little white. it might be something with the taste buds.
  17. You may want to get a second opinion. It does sound like thrush, even if your own breast has no infection. If thrush gets ruled out, you may want to have your baby's blood tested. In some cases, a white tongue is a symptom of something more serious. But before you become afraid, I would just make sure it's not thrush.
  18. Lol Yes, it is completely normal. Your breast milk is white right? Your baby drinks your milk therfor the tongue will be white. What happens when you drink milk?? You tongue turns white. Don't worry hun your baby is fine:)
  19. Milk can sit in the babies mouth for quite some time, causing the tongue to look white. If you have checked with you ped, and he says there is nothing wrong, you should trust that. Just watch for changes, and if there is anything alarming to you, have it checked again! Breast feeding is the best thing you can do for you little one, even if it makes their tongue look funny! You can try giving him a little water after nursing to help wash it all down if it bothers you.
  20. i have a baby and ive not noticed whiteness on her tongue but check with your health visitor or midwife if your still not happy get a second opinion it could be nothing but always check
  21. I called my doctor several weeks ago...my daughter's tongue is white too all the time. It looked kind of like dead skin just sitting their...gross...but it did. My sister-in-law who has a child and is a nurse thought it was thrush too so I called the doctor and she said if I couldn't get it off with a wash cloth than to call them back because if I couldn't get it off it would mean it was probably thrush. I was able to scrape it off with a wash cloth so obviously that was just skin. You could probably do that to your little one too. Hope that helps.
  22. My niece had this when she was like a month old...I just called my sister and she said it could be a thrush...it could be from not washing the baby's bottles well and if you're breastfeeding you should make sure your bras are always clean and that you clean your breasts all the time before and after breastfeeding. This is only what she knows from her experience, but she says your doctor should give you antibiotics for the baby (I think) to make the thrush go away...and she also said babies with thrush get thirsty a lot and it also itches their tongue. You might want to call your doctor again and insist on this issue. I'm sorry if I wasn't of much help. This is the information I could get.
  23. We had the same issue when my son was a baby. We called up our pedicatrician, freaking out about thursh. She said it was likely either from milk or dehydration. It sounds like you saw your doctor, but I think a quick phone call to your baby's pediatrician is in order.
  24. It is thrush a yeast infection in milk. the babys dr will give you some meds it is yellow colored and it will take it away in about a week. babies hate the taste though.
  25. yes certainly. my son is 6 months and still has a white tong. if it were thrush it looks liek you could scrape it off like very thick ( dont scrape it though) also youd probably have it is your breasts and it would hurt
  26. your baby can have thrush and you don't. I would take the baby to the pediatrician. My youngest had thrush twice and I never had it....still got treated for it to keep from getting it though. The ped gave us a liquid to rub on his tongue a few times a day and within 2 days the white was flaking off and he felt much better. From what I understand it's very painful for them (like burning and stinging) so I wouldn't wait too long to do it. Good luck.
  27. You do not have to have a breast infection for your baby to get thrush. Two of mine had trush and I don't breast feed. It is a bacteria that grows on the tounge. I would get my child checked by a pediatrition and if it is not thrush. I could be a build up of milk on the tounge. You can get a soft childrens tooth brush and brush the tounge as needed. no tooth paste though.
